Welcome to Remnants: The Roleplaying Game

The Beginning…

Sometimes, the Broken Lands give up their secrets. Sometimes the earth speaks. We are not natives to this place. I have learned this three times in three ways. One of these secrets speak of a gate of fire, which the earliest of us passed through, unburned, to come here. Another secret tells us we sailed on a sea of stars and the Sun’s own wind carried us. We do not know where the first settlers came from. There was a gate of fire, but born from what hearth? There was a journey across the star sea, but from what harbour? A great civilization rose from those settlers. I have heard fragments of many forgotten languages and seen the ruins of many lost cities. I was once found an Ishi that was made for nothing but to track the days and, as of this month; it claims that this is the 6,543rd year. However, I do not know what event it is counting from, or what it may be counting toward, but that civilization had stood for at least 2,000 years before it broke. The breaking is still a mystery. The tomes give evidence of two factions. One of these learned to create weapons of living things. Those weapons scourge the lands even now; the creatures of the land, the Near Humans, the Grand Monstrosities. The other faction built constructs of steel and fire; their legacy is the Battle Remnant. The weapons were built until they could scorch the entire world. When the conflict grew until one side struck with weapons-of-last-resort and their reeling enemy retaliated. The very world shattered. Those who remain are a broken people of a broken land.

The Broken Lands…

We who remain take up our burdens upon leagues of endless scorch. The skies blow ash and weep acid. We provide for our families from the dangerous scars of the terrain. We survive by fighting the evils of man and beast with the Remnants that were left behind. We ban together to give ourselves strength and we turn on our friends for a morsel of a better life. The secrets say that we came from fire and it is plain to see that to fire we will return. I spoke to a woman in the far south once. She believed that the souls who die in the fire of the Broken Lands return to the star sea and the Sun’s wind blows their ship to a better world. I weep from fear to think that we would just destroy that world too.

The Remnants…

It has been many centuries since the land was broken but people still find new Ishi. Commonly called Remnants, they are leftovers from those who came before. Most are nothing more than dead fragments of a lost age. There are Ishi that can perform miracles and some which can unleash destruction. Amongst the Ishi are the great Battle Remnants, or Ishin, that the tribes and clans still use to wage war. They were but trifling machines in ages past. Now they are our deadliest weapons.

The Creatures…

The faction that mastered life left a far deeper legacy than those who used steel and fire. We see their handiwork everywhere: our beasts of burden, the Near Humans who live out in the extremes, and the Grand Monstrosities that ravage the Lands from time to time. These creatures are still evolving. I have not seen a Gurlak small enough to fit through Amantin’s gates in over a decade, and now the caravans camp beyond our walls. I do not know what the ancients did, or what their final legacy will be, but it will be interesting to see what happens next.

The System…

Remnants is a game for those looking for a fast paced, cinematic, action experience. For that reason Remnants uses Outrider Studios signature Rapidfire System. With all the elaborate settings and characters of a Role Playing Game, with the attitude of a battle hardened, table top, Mecha game. Rapidfire captures the realities of ruthless combat, where the space between living and dying is measured in a heartbeat.

The Rapidfire system is designed to ensure that story and narrative will never be bogged down by heavy rules. It is fast, simple, efficient, and inclusive, which not only adds immediacy to the action of your story, but also makes Remnants a fun experience for role players of all levels.

The Players…

Remnants is a game of tribal war, personal loss, and vicious survival. Will you attempt to make peace between the factions? Or keep the villages safe from the creatures that threaten them? Or will you raise an army against your enemies and seek to crush them into Broken Land they come from? Or will you and your battle Remnant strike out to make your own fortune?

Remnants players will find a vast, exciting world, and the weapons they need to make their way in it. No matter what time of game you’re interested in playing, Remnants’ sandbox style will keep you coming back for more without spending a fortune on models. The future of the Broken Lands depends is up to you. Fight for what’s left.

The Game Masters…

The Broken Lands have been thoughtfully prepared for any type of game. Lead your characters through a crooked canyon in search of a terrible monster, or set them against each other, each with an army to command. Remnants has opportunities in relics, monsters, and power struggles against the backdrop of a world in ruin. Dark, post apocalyptic, themes dominate Remnants, but it takes a GM of vision and ferocity to help the Remnants player grow strong enough to survive the Broken Lands, or die for them.
